Unique Ideas for Business Signs

There is an old saying, "a business with no sign is a sign of no business." This can be very true no matter your industry, as every company needs to attract passersby, advertise a product or service, or at least let customers and clients know that they've found the right building!

While you don't want a business sign to be so unusual that it's actually very distracting and doesn't fit well with your industry, you do want your sign to stand out from everyone else's. Note a few ideas to consider as you begin shopping for signage.

Spinning sign

If you can have a vertical sign outside your business, consider one that spins in the wind. This movement can catch the eyes of passersby, and the multiple panels or front and back of the sign can advertise different slogans, your website, and the like. Be sure the sign isn't made from a material that will create a glare as it spins; avoid a shiny metal, for example, and opt for something burnished, or choose a plain wood sign instead.

Intersection sign

Intersection signs, meaning a pole with two different signs connected in an X, such as you see at an intersection, can be a great way to advertise your business. One of the signs can have the business name, while the adjacent sign can have your company slogan, a note about what your business offers, or a simple and motivating message, such as, "Stop in today!" Wood street signs can give your business a cosy and somewhat country feeling, while metal intersection signs can look very urbane.

Sectioned or separate signs

Rather than having one full sign for your business, consider breaking up the lettering or slogan you want to advertise into separate sections. This can make people stop and take note of all those sections, which can then impel them to visit the business. This can also make your sign stand out from everyone else's.

To do this, you might have one sign section that says EA, another that says TE, and a third that says RY. Each of these sections can then have a graphic or picture of something you serve at your eatery. Be sure you don't space these sections so far apart that the wording is illegible, but by having a frame or gap between each section, this will add visual interest to the sign and slow down readers so they don't pass up your location.

About Me

Multilingual park and tourist signs

If you live in a diverse neighbourhood that has signs that lets park users know what is expected of them (including any limitations on keeping dogs on leashes, picking up dog poo and not smoking), this can help the neighbourhood users get along much better. Many people from different cultures are also interested in the history of shared public spaces such as knowing what buildings used to be on the park site and which person or event the park was named after. If you are looking to erect some multilingual signs in your park or public space, then read on for hints on how to maximise their effectiveness.
